The GAL application period is open and we are accepting applications beginning January 2, 2018 through March 16, 2018 for registry effective July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019.
The RCW 11.88 Guardian ad Litem certified registry is available online.
Application Submission Dates & Instructions
Pursuant to the Pierce County Location Rule effective September 2013, the Court is opening the registry for new or former Title 11 GALs; members currently serving on the Title 11 Certified Registry must reapply to remain on the registry.
All current members on the Certified Registry must complete the renewal application packet, submit a resume and an updated residential history.
All interested parties and GALs who have served in the past will need to submit the new applicant application along with required attachments. Please note, the application is updated annually; therefore, the previous year's application will not be accepted.
All applications must be submitted by the close of business in March 16, 2018 to the Superior Court Administrator.
The GAL application period will begin accepting applications on January 2, 2018 for the registry effective July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019. No late applications shall be considered. In subsequent application periods, if you have not attended the required training by the application closing date, you may timely submit your application and indicate when and where you will be attending the training. Once the training is completed, you must immediately forward a copy of your Certificate of Attendance to the Superior Court Administrator. If you have questions regarding the application process, please email Kristine Maine.
Completing an Application
Please include the RCW number (RCW 11.88 or 26.09) of the applicable registry on all correspondence you send to the court. All required information must be received by the Superior Court Administration by the application deadline. To properly complete your application, please return a signed original hard-copy application to the Superior Court administrator, including the following materials:
1.Submit a signed Title 11 / GAL Certified Registry application. Guardian ad Litems currently serving may submit the renewal application. All interested parties and GALs who have served in the past will need to submit the new applicant application along with required attachments. Please note, the application is updated annually; therefore, the previous year's application will not be accepted.
2.Submit a signed Policy 4, Code of Conduct (this will be included in your application download), also set forth in Pierce County local rules and GALR 2 of the Washington State court rules.
3.Submit a Washington State Patrol (WSP) background check (WATCH REPORT) dated after January 1, 2018. You must send this form directly to the Washington State Patrol with a check for $12 payable to the Washington State Patrol. You are both the applicant under Section A and the requester under Section B of the form. Do not send this form or money to the Superior Court. Please do not delay sending this form to the Washington State Patrol, as it may not be returned to you for several weeks. You may also obtain your WATCH Report from the WSP website.
4.Curriculum vitae or resume.
Returning Guardians ad Litem with no break in service are required to complete only the second day of the training.
If you are not currently serving on any other county’s RCW 11.88 certified GAL Registry, you are required to attend both days of the mandatory training held in the same year in which you apply. Training in past years will not satisfy this requirement.
