Adoptions Without An Attorney (Pro Se)

“We look forward to helping you complete your adoption, due to COVID-19 there have been changes made to how the court is completing adoptions. Please contact Rebecca Via by email at or by phone 253-798-7978 before proceeding, to discuss options.”

Representing Yourself

Petitioners with stepparent adoptions can complete their adoptions without the assistance of an attorney but are considered to be representing themselves (pro se). If the adoption will be contested or the whereabouts of one of the birth parents is not known, please retain an adoption attorney.

This website will discuss the procedure for adoptions with a consenting parent. Pierce County Adoptions can provide some procedural assistance but cannot give legal advice.
