National Accreditation

Accreditation Status



The Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office (PCMEO) recently underwent an independent inspection of its system for medicolegal death investigation by the National Association of Medical Examiners (NAME). The inspection was conducted by Dr. Jay Stahl-Herz from the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner. The Inspector's comments included "Overall, the PCMEO is providing excellent death investigation services to the people of Pierce County.  The staff is to be commended for providing quality service especially while stretched thinly".  The NAME Inspection and Accreditation Committee congratulated the PCMEO on successfully attaining full accreditation. Dr. Barbara Wolf and Dr. Brian Peterson, Co-Chairs of the Committee stated "NAME accredited offices represent the highest quality of death investigation system. The citizens can be proud of the hard work, dedication, and leadership made by the staff in attaining this accreditation."

The accreditation is effective October 4, 2021 through October 4, 2025.
