COVID-19 Stay Home–Stay Safe Order Requirements for Council Meetings
Due to Gov. Jay Inslee’s Emergency Proclamations 20-25 and 20-28, in-person attendance by members of the public to Pierce County Council meetings is NOT permitted at this time. However, the County Council encourages public participation through remote access.
How to participate in Pierce County Council meetings
The Pierce County Council values input from constituents and takes public comment on all ordinances before the Council for review and consideration.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic the Council has prioritized citizen comment and allowed the opportunity for public comment at its meetings – not just through written comment, but real-time during meetings.
Due to the Stay Home-Stay Safe proclamations, in-person attendance is NOT permitted at this time. Instead people may attend and comment at meetings virtually through Zoom, either by video or phone call.
Follow these instructions to provide public comment at a Council or committee meeting.

Council Meetings and Committees
The County Council functions through the work of its standing committees and regional committees, which review proposed legislation prior to consideration by the full Council. The Council’s review of ordinances, motions, and budgets help ensure that county government operates in an efficient, transparent, and cost-effective manner, with equal access for all county residents. Regional and external committees include elected officials and representatives from other jurisdictions.
Pierce County Council Regular Meetings
The County Council regularly meets every Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers.

Pierce County Council service on Outside Boards, Commissions, and Committees
The duties of a Pierce County Councilmember extend far beyond their visible attendance at Council meetings in the County-City Building in Tacoma. State law requires them to serve on many regional governing boards in such critical areas as transportation, public health, criminal justice, and other quality of life issues that cross jurisdictional boundaries.
