Council Meetings and Committees

The County Council functions through the work of its standing committees and regional committees, which review proposed legislation prior to consideration by the full Council. The Council’s review of ordinances, motions, and budgets help ensure that county government operates in an efficient, transparent, and cost-effective manner, with equal access for all county residents. Regional and external committees include elected officials and representatives from other jurisdictions.

Pierce County Council service on Outside Boards, Commissions, and Committees

The duties of a Pierce County Councilmember extend far beyond their visible attendance at Council meetings in the County-City Building in Tacoma. State law requires them to serve on many regional governing boards in such critical areas as transportation, public health, criminal justice, and other quality of life issues that cross jurisdictional boundaries.
