Pierce County residents can take garbage, recycling, and yard waste to six transfer stations and drop boxes throughout the county. Commercial customers may only use the Hidden Valley Transfer Station, Purdy Transfer Station, and Tacoma Recovery and Transfer Center.

All transfer stations and drop boxes offer

  • residential garbage disposal
  • residential yard waste disposal
  • glass drop-off
  • mixed recycling (paper, cardboard, metal cans, and plastic bottles, tubs, and jugs)

Facilities are closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Days

Disposal Rates and Payment
  • Rates are effective March 1, 2023.
  • Washington State's 3.6% refuse tax will be added to the rates listed.
  • Some items, like appliances, may cost more for disposal. For prices, visit LRI's website or call (253) 847-7555.
  • These rates do not apply at the Tacoma Recovery and Transfer Center (not part of Pierce County's system).
  • Any load containing noxious weeds & invasive species such as blackberries or ivy will have an additional fee.
  • Credit/debit preferred to cash payment. Checks are not accepted.

Garbage Rates: Hidden Valley, Prairie Ridge and Purdy - no commercial loads at Prairie Ridge

  • $34.25 minimum charge (plus state refuse tax) for 400 pounds or less
  • $171.23 per ton (plus state refuse tax) for more than 400 pounds

Garbage Rates: Anderson Island and Key Center - no commercial loads

  • $34.25 minimum charge (plus state refuse tax) for 1 cubic yard or less
  • $34.25 per cubic yard (plus state refuse tax) for more than 1 cubic yard
  • 5 cubic yards max

Yard Waste Rates

  • No cost for loads under 1 ton for all Pierce County residents and businesses
  • $110 per ton (plus state refuse tax) for loads over 1 ton
  • Rates differ at Tacoma Recovery & Transfer Center
  • 1 ton max at Prairie Ridge
