Stormwater & Flooding

How does Pierce County deal with stormwater and flooding?

People depend on and enjoy water, but it creates real problems when there is too much or its quality is compromised.

Surface Water Management (SWM) addresses flood control, water quality and the preservation of natural drainage systems. This helps ensure Pierce County rivers and streams are clean, healthy and safe.

Innovation helps county staff improve efficiency and accuracy

A Pierce County Planning & Public Works employee brought his engineering skills and interest in flying model airplanes together to improve a tool used to measure stormwater ponds in the county. The result was a reduction in time to map the bottoms of the ponds, increased accuracy in the mapping, and improved safety for staff. Find out more in the video.
