Sustainability 2030: Pierce County's Greenhouse Gas Reduction Plan

The Sustainability 2030: Greenhouse Gas Reduction Plan was passed by Pierce County Council on March 23, 2021 and signed by Pierce County Executive Bruce Dammeier on April 15, 2021.

The Plan sets an ambitious goal for Pierce County to reduce communitywide greenhouse gas emissions as well as the County’s own operational emissions 45% by 2030. This ten-year action plan was developed with numerous community sustainability experts and Pierce County stakeholders and includes emission reduction actions the County and the community can take across multiple sectors: energy and the built environment, transportation, consumption and waste reduction, carbon sequestration, and education and outreach.

As we work together to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and improve the health of Pierce County residents and our environment, the Plan will be periodically updated with the support of ongoing community engagement.

These values have been our guide as we developed the plan:

  • Equity
  • Vibrant Communities
  • Accountability
  • Fiscal Responsibility
  • Economic Development
  • Innovation
