Members of the Honor Guard come from almost every division of the Sheriff's Department including patrol, traffic, corrections and investigations.

The Honor Guards' primary duty is to perform at public functions, deputy commissioning ceremonies, promotional ceremonies and the many law enforcement memorial ceremonies held all over Western Washington, which occur each year in May. The Honor Guard is also the primary unit within the department that is called upon in the event of the death of a current or former department member.

The Honor Guard has been represented at the National Law Enforcement Memorial Week, in Washington D.C., each year since 1995.
