Active Transportation Web Banner
Active transportation refers to any form of human-powered transportation such as:

   Walking

   Cycling

     In-Line Skating

    Skateboarding

    Travel by Wheelchair

Active transportation planning helps to:

    Provide Travel Options

    Relieves Traffic Congestion

Reduces Air Pollution and Fuel Consumption

     Promotes Physical Activity and Health

    Improves Quality of Life

The Pierce County Comprehensive Plan promotes the development of a connected active transportation system. It also highlights programs and resources to encourage and enable active transportation modes. The Puget Sound region’s Active Transportation Plan is one of the main resources used to create Pierce County’s plan.

Active Transportation Resources

There are a number of local resources to guide active transportation around the Pierce County. Our Bicycling Resources page includes the Pierce County Bike Map. The map shows trails and other facilities to help cyclists choose their route. The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department makes a walking guide of popular routes in the County.
