198th Avenue East - 144th Street East to 120th Street East (CRP 5675)

What's Happening

Engineering: Brookfield Properties has completed the construction plans for Segment 2, and Pierce County has approved them.

Land: We continue to acquire the needed right-of-way between 128th Street East and 120th Street East.

Paving for Segment 2 was completed Fall 2022. Beginning late Winter - early Spring, crews will widen the two lanes. Two lanes of traffic will remain open while work is being done.

About the Project

Improvements are planned to 1.5 miles of 198th Avenue East between 144th Street East and 120th Street East (CRP 5675). The project will be built in phases as Tehaleh development occurs and also accommodate future widening by Pierce County.

The initial, or Phase 1, project has been split into two segments:

  • Segment 1 will construct the roadway consisting of four lanes between 144th Street East and 128th Street East. The construction of segment 1 is complete.
  • Segment 2 will construct the roadway consisting of four lanes between 128th Street East and 120th Street East. The construction of segment 2 will begin in Spring 2021 within the existing right-of-way and any parcels that we have completed acquisition.

Project Timeline

2022: Finish acquiring right-of-way. Construction on Segment 2 between 128th Street East and 120th Street East is weather dependent. Crews will pave the roadway at the end of July. Upon completion of paving, traffic lanes will be shifted to the west side of the roadway to accommodate the work area.

2023: Lane paving and widening complete in early Spring 2023. 

Project completion expected early Summer 2023.
