Specialized Recreation Activities

Welcome to Pierce County Parks Specialized Recreation - Adventure with in Reach. We are so excited to offer a variety of programs for participants of all ages and abilities in Pierce County. Remember we are on an Adventure so do not be afraid to try something new.


We have designed our programs based on the most recent “Safe Start” guidelines and are committed to modifying them from virtual-only to in-person (or a combination of both), as soon as it’s safe to do so.  


Registration:

Sign up for one or several sessions/events at a time. Each session is limited to the first 10 registered participants. Any person may register, they do not have to have a disability. We welcome friends, siblings, and family to participate.

Registration:

  • Pre-Registration is required. Participants can register early for as many sessions as they wish.
  • Space is limited to the first 10 registered each day.
  • Pre-register online or by phone at (253) 798-4000 from 8:00 am - 7:00 pm
  • To pre-register online for activities, please select the course number listed below.

This program is supported by DDA funding and respite money may be used. If using DDA funds, please be sure to mention DDA funds when calling to have a registration processed.

Manic Monday Meet up

Hang out with us at the beginning of the week - virtually! Fill your cup with coffee, tea, juice, or water, log in and let’s chat! Register for each meeting.

Art Class

Meet us in-person or on ZOOM for art class to relax and create! Step by step instructions and materials will be provided for each art project. Different projects each week. All levels of artists are encouraged to join the class! 


  • Monday classes are in-person at the Lakewood Community Center. Project materials will be provided.
  • Tuesday Virtual classes, you'll receive a ZOOM link sent to your email allowing you to enter our private virtual art class. Class materials will be available each week for pickup.

FUNctional Fitness

Do you have a 2021 new year’s resolution? Lets work together to achieve your fitness goals. We’ll work on balance, flexibility, strength, and cardio; with a low impact circuit style workout.

Bowling 

Our Specialized Recreation bowling meets once a week at Narrows Plaza Bowling for 5 week sessions. Teams of two will be competing for the win. If you want to join with a friend, please sign up together and specify when you register. Price includes all costs.

Grit City Social Connection

Join this weekly social recreation group to see your old friends, and make new ones. We will be chatting, dancing, painting, playing games, doing light exercises listening, and listening to music. All program supplies provided.

Puget Sound Peers Crew

Sign up for this social recreation group to stay connected with your friends. Like music and chatting with friends? We are the group for you! Play games, paint pictures and Dance, Dance the evening away. 


  • February - Virtual gatherings on Zoom. We provide program supplies in a packet for you to pick up*. 
  • March - In-person gatherings at the Lakewood Community Center. Program supplies will be provided at the center.

Walking Club (in person)

Join us a couple Fridays a month to go for a hike on a Pierce County trail.  This program is in person so participants must wear a mask while walking in the group.  We meet the second and fourth Friday of the month at paved trails through out Pierce County.  

February Trails:  

  • Foothills Trail - meet at the basketball court in the Orting City Park
  • Wapato Park - meet at the bath house

March Trails:  

  • Chambers Creek Regional Park (CCRP) - meet in Central Meadow
  • Nathan Chapman Memorial Trail - meet at South Hill Park at the playground

Car Bingo (In person event)

Friday, March 19

6:00-8:00 PM

Sprinker Recreation Center Parking Lot


Spend the evening with us, in your car, playing BINGO.  You will get bingo cards and a dobber with your cost to play.  We will play a few games of BINGO and winners will get prizes.  When someone in your car gets a BINGO all you have to do is honk your horn and flash your car lights.  We will come to your car and verify.

Screen Time with a Celebrity

Each month you will have an opportunity to talk one to one with a different Celebrity and ask them all of your questions. With your registration cost you will receive 15 minutes with the Celebrity and a photo mailed to your home with a little prize.
