Pierce County is monitoring the Fox Island Bridge through it's bridge inspection program. The Fox Island Bridge has a routine and UBIT (Under Bridge Inspection Truck) inspection every 24 months and an underwater inspection every 60 months. The underwater inspection was completed in 2017. The routine and UBIT inspections were completed in 2019.
Pierce County’s consultant, HDR Engineering, has completed Phase 1 of the Preliminary Type, Size and Location (TS&L) Study and the Funding and Financing Options Study for the Fox Island Bridge. Pierce County Planning and Public Works is currently developing a strategy to present the findings of the Funding and Financing Options Study with the project stakeholders, taking impacts from COVID-19 into account.
In 2017, we requested federal funds to conduct a full Type, Size and Location Study. We did not receive these funds.
Pierce County is continuing to pursue financing for the final Type, Size and Location Study.
