Bridge #26211-A / Fox Island Bridge

Note: Due to COVID-19, we are currently determining how to share information with the community on potential financial options to rehabilitate or replace the Fox Island Bridge. We will post an update when it is available.

What's Happening

Pierce County is monitoring the Fox Island Bridge through it's bridge inspection program. The Fox Island Bridge has a routine and UBIT (Under Bridge Inspection Truck) inspection every 24 months and an underwater inspection every 60 months. The underwater inspection was completed in 2017. The routine and UBIT inspections were completed in 2019.

Pierce County’s consultant, HDR Engineering, has completed Phase 1 of the Preliminary Type, Size and Location (TS&L) Study for the Fox Island Bridge. In 2018 - 2019, we will conduct a funding feasibility study. This study will identify and evaluate potential funding and financing options to rehabilitate or replace the bridge. This study is expected to be complete in late 2019.

In 2017, we requested federal funds to conduct a full Type, Size and Location Study. We did not receive these funds.

Pierce County is continuing to pursue financing for the final Type, Size and Location Study.
