Construction on a roundabout at the intersection of Point Fosdick Drive Northwest, Stone Drive Northwest, and 34th Avenue Northwest is complete.
The contractor has completed its work monitoring planting establishment. The project was physically complete as of Oct. 22.
About the project
A roundabout is a circular intersection where motorists travel counterclockwise around a center island. This is the first roundabout in unincorporated Pierce County built by the county.
The roundabout is one lane, and features crosswalks with flashing lights that alert motorists that a pedestrian is crossing. The roundabout has an apron that trucks can drive onto if extra room is needed when turning.
The project also includes additional street lighting, concrete sidewalks, curbs and gutters, and storm drainage treatment facilities.
Miles Resources is the contractor. The construction cost is approximately $2.7 million. It is funded with a grant of approximately $1.7 million from the Washington State Transportation Improvement Board’s Urban Arterial Program, along approximately $1 million in County Road Funds.
Pierce County held an open house in June 2015 to share information about the project and gather feedback on the design.
