The Canyon Road Regional Connection Project will extend Canyon Road East from Pioneer Way East to 70th Avenue East - enabling an important connection between the Port of Tacoma and Frederickson.

Other key elements include a grade separation of the BNSF railroad crossing and the construction of a new bridge over the Puyallup River to replace the Milroy Bridge.

Once complete, the project will provide a new and more efficient route for commuters, freight vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians to travel around Pierce County.


The connection of these two important manufacturing industrial centers will benefit Pierce County's economy, environment and mobility. The project will help:

  • Relieve traffic congestion
  • Aid the movement of freight and goods to local ports
  • Reduce greenhouse gases
  • Support regional companies in their effort to retain and expand family-wage jobs
In addition, $1.5 million will be invested in environmental mitigation by restoring wetlands and improving salmon habitat.
