The Juvenile Division
prosecutes all offenders between the ages of 8 and 17 who commit felonies and
misdemeanors within Pierce County, with cases ranging from traffic offenses to
homicides. This division works in
collaboration with members from law enforcement, Juvenile Probation, the
Clerk's Office and Juvenile Court to effectively prosecute juvenile matters,
with a focus on rehabilitation that is consistent with community safety.
In 2016, the Juvenile Division received 2463
cases for review. Of these cases, 995 were charged and 895 were referred to the
Probation Department’s Diversion Unit for intervention and services.
In an effort to handle the complex and sensitive
issues presented by sexual assault, the Juvenile Division has a designated
deputy prosecutor with specialized training to prosecute these cases. With the
tireless efforts of victim advocates, thesevulnerable victims and their families receive
the support and assistance they need.
