Juvenile Division

The Juvenile Division prosecutes all offenders between the ages of 8 and 17 who commit felonies and misdemeanors within Pierce County, with cases ranging from traffic offenses to homicides.  This division works in collaboration with members from law enforcement, Juvenile Probation, the Clerk's Office and Juvenile Court to effectively prosecute juvenile matters, with a focus on rehabilitation that is consistent with community safety.

In 2016, the Juvenile Division received 2463 cases for review. Of these cases, 995 were charged and 895 were referred to the Probation Department’s Diversion Unit for intervention and services.

In an effort to handle the complex and sensitive issues presented by sexual assault, the Juvenile Division has a designated deputy prosecutor with specialized training to prosecute these cases. With the tireless efforts of victim advocates, these
vulnerable victims and their families receive the support and assistance they need.
