www.doh.wa.gov/CommunityandEnvironment/Shellfish/CommercialShellfish WSDA licenses and regulates companies that commercially harvest and sell molluscan shellfish, Harvest Site Certification
All commercial shellfish operations must meet stringent state and federal sanitation requirements. Specific steps must be taken to make sure shellfish harvesting and marketing processes do not contaminate shellfish destined for retail markets and restaurants.
DOH- Shellfish Program Rules and regulations that govern commercial shellfish operations are:
RCW 69.30 - Sanitary Control of Shellfish
WAC 246-282 - Sanitary Control of Shellfish
National Shellfish Sanitation Program Guide for the Control of Molluscan Shellfish, Model Ordinance (NSSP Model Ordinance) (PDF)
These regulation roadmaps are strictly a guide intended to give producers an idea of the regulations and permits they may need. They do not include all necessary steps that may apply to your farm product. Producers are ultimately responsible for conducting their own research and obtaining the correct permits.
