Notice: Closure along 264th Street East
Updated at 1 p.m. June 9
A 250-foot section of 264th Street East between 158th Avenue East and Orville Road East is expected to be closed until June 30. The closed section starts about a half mile west of Orville Road East.
The section was closed June 4 after sliding of the shoulder and outside edge of the eastbound lane was accelerated during current construction activities. During the closure, the construction work will continue and the road will be repaired.
A 5.6 mile detour route will take motorists along 158th Avenue East, 296th Street East, Browne Road East, Griggs Road East, and Orville Road East. Signs are in place to notify drivers of the closed area and the detour route.
About 600 feet of guardrail will be installed on the outside edge of 264th Street East to increase safety. The work started May 24, and is expected to be complete in late June.
The work area starts approximately 1,000 feet east of 158th Avenue East, between Orting Kapowsin Highway East and Orville Road East.
Retaining walls Two retaining walls constructed of spiral nails will be built starting approximately 1,000 feet west of 163rd Avenue East. The walls will stabilize the slope along the outside edge of the road. The walls will be approximately 60-feet-long and 140-feet-long.
Work hours will be 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.
The two-lane road may be reduced to one lane with alternating traffic during work hours.
Granite Construction Company is the project contractor. The construction cost is approximately $640,000 and is funded with County Road Funds.
