What’s Happening

Engineering: We have completed analyzing options to reconfigure the Key Peninsula Highway NW/Lackey Road NW/Jackson Lake NW intersection. Based on community feedback and further analysis, we have selected Alternative 2, a single lane roundabout. Initial work on the preliminary engineering for this project has begun and County crews have surveyed the project area.

Single Roundabout Selected

Single Lane Roundabout Selected for Intersection Project  

In March of this year, Pierce County hosted an online open house about the Key Peninsula Highway NW/Lackey Road NW/Jackson Lake Road NW intersection project.  As of July 2022, Pierce County has selected Alternative 2, a single lane roundabout, for this intersection.

Features may include:

  • Central island
  • Truck apron for larger trucks and emergency vehicles to drive onto when navigating the roundabout
  • 6-foot paved shoulders
  • Concrete curb, gutters and sidewalks
  • Street lighting at the roundabout
  • Signalized pedestrian crossings
  • Stormwater storage and treatment facilities

Planned improvements to Key Peninsula Highway NW/Lackey Road NW/Jackson Lake Road NW intersection include reconfiguring the intersection into a new roundabout with consideration for the following features:

  • Non-mountable center island with raised splitter islands and crosswalk cutouts
  • Truck apron for larger trucks and emergency vehicles to drive onto when navigating the roundabout
  • 6-foot paved shoulders on road approaches to the roundabout
  • Concrete curb, gutters and sidewalks
  • Street lighting at the roundabout
  • Stormwater storage and treatment facilities
