Work to resurface Sumner-Buckley Highway East from 258th Avenue East to West Mason Avenue at the Buckley city limits began April 4.
Site preparation work took place the week of April 4. Work resumed the week of May 2 after being delayed due to weather.
Paving is complete and project completion is expected in early August.

Planned improvements to Sumner-Buckley Highway East from 258th Avenue East to West Mason Avenue (Buckley City Limits) are intended to preserve the existing roadway. The improvements would include the following:
Work hours will be 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, unless otherwise noted.
The two-lane road may be reduced to one lane with alternating traffic during work hours. A pilot car may lead motorists through the work area.
ICON Materials is the project’s contractor. The construction cost is approximately $1.1 million and is funded with Washington State County Road Administration Board Rural Arterial Program funds.
January 19, 2022: Bid Opening date.
January 27, 2022: Pierce County awarded the contract to ICON Materials
March 28, 2022: Pierce County hosted the Pre-Construction Meeting
April 4, 2022: Notice to Proceed date.
July 22, 2022: Substantial Completion
August 8, 2022: Physical Completion
