Engineering: We are beginning the design engineering for the project. Currently we are gathering information about the existing site conditions and initiating contact with utility companies.
Land: Additional right-of-way needs will be assessed.
Surveying: County surveyors will be in the area gathering field data of the project area.
Planned improvements to the intersection of Stewart Avenue East and 66th Avenue East are intended to increase capacity and relieve traffic congestion, and include the following:
Construct a traffic signal system and intersection street lighting.
Extend the westbound left-turn lane on Stewart Avenue East.
Construct paved shoulder, cement concrete curb, gutter, and sidewalk at the traffic signal.
Evaluate/improve the existing storm drainage system as needed to conform to the Pierce County Stormwater Management and Site Development Manual.
May 2020 to 2022: Field data collection, preliminary engineering, environmental review, preliminary plans, estimate, and final right-of-way plans.
March 2023: Work anticipated to start back up. Project funding and timeline being assessed for project update within 2023.
