Rain Barrel Workshop - An At Home Experience

Rain Barrel

We have created a remote version of our rain barrel workshop that you and your family can enjoy from home.

Rain barrels are a form of Green Infrastructure. Green Infrastructure is a resilient approach to managing all the rain that we get here in Pierce County (40 inches each year!) while also providing many nature and community benefits as these projects are nature-based.

Pierce County and Pierce Conservation District want you to know that we sincerely appreciate all of our rain barrel customers for being so adaptive in such uncertain times. Thank you for continuing to join us in helping carry out our mission. We hope that 2022 will bring us all back together again for in-person workshops.

Check Eligibility

Please check to make sure your property is eligible before beginning the workshop. This workshop is open to anyone, but rain barrels can only be distributed to unincorporated Pierce County residents.

Why Rain Barrels?

Stormwater runoff is water that originates as rain or snow but because of traditional development, a high quantity of the water flows across land instead of seeping into the ground naturally. As water comes into contact with paved surfaces like parking lots, streets, and building rooftops it sweeps up pollutants, pushing them into nearby water ways, causing devastating impacts.

The good news is that we have a solution for this problem, and you guessed it— rain barrels! In this case, rain barrels will be connected to your roof gutters from a down spout that will point into the barrel, allowing you the opportunity to legally harvest your own rain water.
