Eckenstam Johnson Road repairs

What’s happening

Work to haul rocks to Anderson Island via the Pierce County Ferry was completed in December 2020.

The rocks are needed for upcoming repair work along Eckenstam Johnson Road. The road shoulder is eroded in three locations following several winter events the past few years.

Slide repair work

We will provide additional information about the repair work - such as the start date - when it is available. We originally expected to start the work in November 2020. However, we are continuing to seek environmental permits and right-of-way easements. The start date may also be impacted by tide status and fish windows.

Once the repair work starts, ferry riders can expect to see Pierce County pickup trucks traveling to Anderson Island on weekdays. Additional equipment will also be brought over on the ferry, including two excavators that will be staged on the island while work is underway.
