Energy Assistance Online Application
Before You Apply
This serves as a quick list of items that clients will be responsible for when applying online or when dropping off their mail-in applications.
Pierce County Energy Assistance serves households outside the City of Tacoma. If you live in Tacoma and need energy assistance, contact MDC.
The Primary Applicant should be the person whose name appears on the utility bill, however Secondary Applicants can apply on their behalf. All applicants will need to provide a copy of a valid ID and a copy of their Social Security card.
A valid picture ID is required for ALL persons residing in the home; 18 years or older. Valid ID’s can include passport, Military ID, Department of Corrections ID, or tribal ID. The ID must not be expired.
All members of the household must have a Social Security card (SS) or an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN).
ALL paystubs are required at time of appointment (payroll dates are NOT actual pay dates). We only accept GROSS INCOME for ALL earned income.
Proof of the previous month’s income is needed. Copies of the paystubs, actual pay dates of when the money was received. If the application is signed in October, copies of September’s paystubs are needed.
Proof of earned income can be obtained from the Employment Security Department ESDWAGOV - Home. Instructions for accessing ESD is available
TANF, Refugee Assistance, GA/GAU (can be verified through DSHS or can take the current award letter). SSI, SSA, SSP, Retirement, Pension, etc., WILL NEED AWARD LETTER showing the monthly amounts received.
Printout from the Division of Child Support enforcement agency needs to be from the first of the month to the end; (ex: if the date of application is in December, then the printout needs to show pay dates from Sep 1st to Nov 30th)
ALL paystubs for the weekly benefit amount OR a printout for the last 3 months from the Unemployment Office
Account ledger of monthly income, bank statements for business showing the deposits
Utility Bill: Client must submit a copy of all utility bills associated with the home’s address. For example; if the home has Tacoma Public Utilities electricity and Puget Sound Energy gas then a copy of both bills is needed.
This online application should take anywhere from 5-20 minutes to fill out. If we have remaining questions about your application, an Energy Assistance staff member will contact you.
