Human Services uses local and federal funding to finance the development and preservation of affordable rental housing and the development of homeownership opportunities for low income households in Pierce County. Below are some highlights from projects we've helped develop over the last several years.
Orting Veterans Village
The Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs lased 5+ acres in Orting to create a tiny home village for veterans experiencing homelessness. The project broken ground in January 2020 and are expected to have their first guests move in this Spring. The village can house up to 35 chronically homeless veterans in Pierce County. We've partnered with Mercy Housing Northwest to bring more affordable senior housing to the Hilltop neighborhood in Tacoma. This new development, opening Fall 2021, will offer 60 apartments for seniors, and include an on-site community room and outdoor plaza for residents to gather and participate in Resident Services. The development is conveniently located just blocks from two light rail stations, bus stops and multiple healthcare facilities. 20% of the households are set aside for residents with disabilities, and roughly 30% are reserved for veterans.
