264th St. E culvert repairs

What’s happening

264th Street East approximately 900 feet west of 134th Avenue East reopened Aug. 30, 2022 after crews completed a temporary repair at the site of a culvert washout.

The road was closed following a culvert washout on Jan. 7, 2022.

Temporary repair complete

Work on a temporary repair began Aug. 8, 2022 and was completed Aug. 30. Crews installed two temporary 36-inch pipes to allow the channel flow to pass under the roadway, and rebuilt the roadway surface.

Future plans

We planned to install a permanent box culvert in Summer 2022. However, this work has been delayed due to persistently high groundwater levels.

A permanent 16-foot-wide box culvert that supports fish passage is expected to be installed in Summer 2023. Details will be posted on this webpage as they are available.

Background

A channel that flows through the culvert located underneath 264th Street East experienced high waters during an early January 2022 storm. The channel connects to South Creek.

About half of the 36-inch diameter culvert washed out and damaged the road surface, leaving the road unsafe to drive on.
