Civil Protection Orders


Civil Protection Order petitions are filed with:

You may present your completed Petition for Protection and Law Enforcement form to the Clerk between 8:30 and 4:30 Monday through Friday.  Petitions received after 2:30 pm will be reviewed by a judicial officer on the next business day. You will need to appear before a Commissioner to obtain a Temporary Order.

Types of Protection Orders

Domestic Violence Protection Order (DVPO) -must establish a relationship

RCW 26.50: Domestic Violence means (a) physical harm, bodily injury, assault or the infliction of fear of imminent physical harm, bodily injury or assault between family or household members; (b) sexual assault of one family or household member by another; or (c) stalking as defined in RCW 9A.46.110.

Relationship: Family or Household Member

  • Current or former spouses or domestic partners
  • People with a child(ren) in common
  • Adults related by blood or marriage
  • Adults who presently reside together or who previously resided together
  • People age 15 or older who live or lived together and/or who have had a dating relationship
  • People who have a biological or legal step-parent or step-child relationship. This includes stepparents and stepchildren and grandparents and grandchildren
