Day Island Pump Station Repairs

Overview

Pierce County is repairing our sewer pump station located at 2400 Day Island Boulevard West.

The maintenance work starts on Monday, Sept. 12, and is expected to last up to two weeks. Pierce County Sewer maintenance crews and contractors from R.L. Alia will be working Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

The work will include replacing all electrical equipment inside the pump station to meet today’s power requirements. Crews will also be digging across the road to install the power service to the pump station underground. This portion of the road will be repaved at the end of the work.

What to Expect

Traffic Impacts

There will be a lane closure on Day Island Boulevard West (south of Day Island Bridge Road) during work hours, Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

The contractor will keep one lane open to minimize traffic delays, and flaggers will be on-site during work hours to direct traffic. Please travel with caution and allow extra time to reach your destination.

Other Impacts

We do not anticipate any sewer or power disruptions. Residents in the area may notice construction noise/vibrations, dust/dirt, and smell from fresh asphalt.

What’s a Pump Station?

A sewage pump station is used to collect and transport wastewater to a higher elevation when gravity cannot naturally carry the flow to a treatment system.

This pump station serves all residents on Day Island. Flows to the station are pumped over the bridge to be treated at the Chambers Creek Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant.
