Volunteer Program

Supporting Our Attorneys

The Pierce County Department of Assigned Counsel (DAC) engages volunteers to provide valuable support services to our attorneys. Our volunteer program exposes students to the diverse activities involved in criminal defense case preparation and lets students experience working with defense teams on active cases.

Program Requirements

Students accepted into the program must be at least 18 years of age and work a minimum of 15 hours per week, under the direction of our investigation specialist. Some of the activities our volunteers perform include:
  • Client Interviews
  • Discovery Redaction
  • Discovery Review with Client
  • Maintaining Clothing Bank
  • Photographing Crime Scenes
  • Requesting Records
  • Subpoena Service
  • Witness Interviews
