About Auditor Linda Farmer, APR


Farmer VP portrait-low rezLinda Farmer, APR was elected Pierce County Auditor in November 2022. She oversees elections for more than half a million registered voters in Washington state’s second largest county. Her staff of 60 also is responsible for providing recording, licensing and passport services to the public.

Linda serves on the Executive Steering Committee for VoteWA, the state’s elections system, and she also serves on the state’s Voting Systems Review Board. She is working toward her state election administrator certification. 

An award-winning communications and government affairs professional, Linda has worked in both the private and public sectors. Most recently she was the Chief Communications Officer for the Washington State Department of Enterprise Services. She also worked for Comcast, Pierce County Library System, the Association of Washington School Principals, Pacific Lutheran University, the cities of Tacoma and Federal Way, and the Washington State Puget Sound Partnership. She got her start as a newspaper reporter and editor. 

Interested in seeing lasting and positive change on a local level, Linda was elected to the 2016 Pierce County Charter Review Commission representing Pierce County Council District 6 (DuPont, Steilacoom, Lakewood, JBLM, Parkland, and Anderson, Ketron & McNeil islands.) 

In 2019, she was elected to the Lakewood City Council where she led efforts on human services and climate change issues including initiating the city’s first tree preservation ordinance, an effort that seeks to increase the city’s tree canopy from 26% to 40% by 2050 while balancing smart development goals. In addition to serving on several City Council committees, she served on the South Sound Housing Affordability Partners Executive Board and on the Washington State Sex Offender Policy Board. 

Engaged in her community, Linda has served on advisory boards for KNKX 88.5, City Club of Tacoma and Communities for a Healthy Bay, as well as Treasurer for the Idlewild Elementary PTA. She is an active member and past president of the Puget Sound Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). She was named the chapter’s Public Relations Professional of the Year in 2006.

Linda holds a Master of Science degree in Communications Management from Syracuse University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Editorial Journalism and Political Science from the University of Washington. She is nationally accredited in public relations (APR) and is a nationally Certified Diversity Executive (CDE). 

A native Washingtonian, Linda was born and raised in Longview. A longtime South Sound resident, she has called the City of Lakewood home for the past 20 years. She has been married to Jimmie Farmer, an IT professional at the City of Tacoma, since 2001. Their daughter, Dylan, attends Lakes High School.
