District Court allows Name Changes and Small Claims cases to be started online. After you complete the interview process online, you must contact the Court within 72 hours, either by phone at (253) 798-7487 or by Live Chat. If you do not contact the court within 72 hours, your petition will be deleted.
At this time, you will be provided a confirmation number and instructions to pay any applicable filing fees. The confirmation number allows you to check the status of your petition when you contact the court. A clerk will review your responses and either accept or reject the document. A rejection could mean that more information is required or that the Court does not have jurisdiction over your request (if we do not have jurisdiction over your case, this means you may need to re-file your petition at another court).

The interview takes approximately 30 minutes. At the end of the interview, you must contact the Court within 72 hours by phone (253) 798-7487 or by Live Chat for review. You will be scheduled an appearance time to file the Name Change in person. Please see the Filing a Name Change Petition section for additional information on hearing times and filing deadlines.
Small Claims Case
The interview takes approximately 30 minutes. At the end of the interview, you must contact the Court within 72 hours by phone (253) 798-7487 or by Live Chat for review. At this time, you will be provided instructions to pay the filing fee and a mediation hearing will be set. Service packets will be prepared and provided to you by mail or email.
