In August 2023, geotechnical drilling was conducted on both sides of the Ski Park Bridge to analyze the soil for the future construction of a new two-span, prestressed concrete girder bridge. Thank you for your patience during the short closure while crews were onsite.

About the Project
The Ski Park Bridge, located along the Foothills Trail between Orting and South Prairie, is a timber bridge originally built in 1904 as a trestle along the former railroad route. Due to its age and location within a wetland, it is in need of replacement. The Pierce County bridge engineers recommended the complete replacement of the existing bridge with a new two-span, prestressed concrete girder bridge which will have an estimated 100-year useful life. The County is moving forward with that recommendation.
Currently, the project is at 30% design with construction scheduled for the summer of 2025. We anticipate the trail to be closed for approximately 6 months for the replacement.
