What’s Happening

This project is currently in the design engineering phase. Crews were on site in January to inspect, evaluate the level of debris build-up, and evaluate the details of the proposed containment plan before it is cleaned and inspected again this summer. 

Engineering:  Pierce County is in the preliminary design phase developing a plan to clean the Milroy Bridge to meet Federal bridge inspection requirements.

Environmental: Necessary environmental permits will be obtained.

About the Project

Pierce County processed a consultant agreement with WSP to develop contract plans and specifications to clean and inspect the Milroy Bridge in compliance with National Bridge Inspection Standards.

  • Environmental permitting will take place concurrent with design. 
  • No right of way is needed for this project.
  • The construction contract is expected to be advertised in the Spring of 2024 with bid opening in late-May. Following contract award and execution, work is expected to begin early Summer 2024.
  • After containment and bridge cleaning has been completed, a Non-Redundant Steel Tension Member (NSTM) inspection will be completed in accordance with the National Bridge Inspection Standards
