Disaster assistance for public entities

When emergencies and major disasters affecting Pierce County damage our public facilities and cause millions of dollars in damages, the President may issue a declaration that provides supplemental federal assistance to help public entities during the disaster recovery process.

Under the Public Assistance (PA) program, FEMA provides financial assistance to communities, government agencies, and private nonprofit organizations to help them repair, rebuild, or restore public facilities and services as quickly as possible.

This program provides partial reimbursement for costs associated with debris removal, emergency protective measures, and permanent restoration of infrastructure. The program also encourages protection from future disaster damages through allowing certain improvements that reduce risks and vulnerabilities from natural hazards.
