Five tips to help you have a happy holiday experience on Pierce County Ferry this season:

Here are five tips to help you have a happy holiday experience on Pierce County Ferry this season:

1. Be on time for your holiday gatherings! Arrive at least 20 minutes prior to your desired departure time and remain in your vehicle except to purchase tickets at the counter. Please keep in mind that the holidays are some of our busiest times of the year, so give yourself plenty of time and pack plenty of patience. Traveling during non-peak times may also help reduce your wait time.

2. Skip the line and purchase your tickets in advance if possible. Tickets are available for purchase on our mobile app or online via the Pierce County Ferry Customer Portal at pierceferrytickets.com. A vehicle ticket includes the driver, but you’ll need to purchase additional passenger tickets per person. As always, you can also purchase tickets in person at the terminal. Learn more at www.PierceCountyWa.gov/Fares.

3. Be a good neighbor! Avoid opportunities for line cutting by parking directly behind the vehicle ahead of you and make sure you don’t leave a large gap. Make sure you also observe all posted instructions and painted lines. Additionally, do not park behind a full lane or drive up behind the end of a lane that is loading—that’s cutting in line and you may risk being denied passage on that run.

4. Follow the crew’s directions. When loading the ferry, drive 5 mph or less and turn your car headlights off and use only parking lights when loading. When parking on the ferry deck, pull as close as you can to the vehicle in front of you, set the emergency brake, and turn the engine off.

5. Plan your trip accordingly. The 4:45 a.m. departure from Steilacoom and the 5:15 a.m. departure from Anderson Island, as indicated with a triangle next to them, will not be running on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays—which includes Thanksgiving (Nov. 25) and Black Friday (Nov. 26). All other departure times should run as scheduled. Sign up for Rider Alerts to stay informed of any schedule changes or delays. www.PierceCountyWa.gov/RiderAlert.
