Medicaid from the Inside: Professional Updating

Tuesday, May 11, 2021

Join the Pierce County Aging & Disability Resource Center for this special “Lunch & Learn” for community professionals, social workers, discharge planners, and others who help clients access Medicaid (Apple Health) services. Medicaid is the single largest source of health coverage in the United States. About 1.9 million Washingtonians receive services through Apple Health. Some components of the program change frequently while others change with developing community needs, e.g., the pandemic. Presented by Matt Santelli, Community Outreach and Education Specialist for Pierce County Aging & Disability Resources.

Professional Lunch & Learn Examines Medicaid

Applying for Medicaid is complicated.  Just understanding it is hard enough; filling out the forms can be even more challenging.  That’s why professionals – social workers, discharge planners, clinicians, community volunteers and social service professionals – are often approached by people needing help.

“Medicaid from the Inside: A Lunch & Learn for Professionals” is intended for anyone who finds themselves in a position to help people navigate the system.  In Washington State, Medicaid is called Apple Health.  Apple Health provides preventative care, like cancer screenings, treatment for diabetes and high blood pressure, and many other health care services in addition to long term care services and supports.

Join the Pierce County Aging and Disability Resource Center for a special “Lunch and Learn” for professionals.  The presentation will discuss
Apple Health Medicaid
Dental and Vision Coverage
Medicaid Personal Care
Community First Choice
Long Term Care Services
MAC and TSOA
Some of the non-Medicaid programs have generous eligibility guidelines not found in traditional Medicaid programs.  Ample time will be allotted for questions.

The presentation will be offered online once in May:

“Because Medicaid can seem so intimidating, people often seek help,” said Aaron Van Valkenburg, Manager of Pierce County Aging & Disability Resources.  “Professionals in our County are important gate keepers.  Having current information about Medicaid eligibility and other non-Medicaid programs can truly help those most in need.”

“Medicaid from the Inside: A Lunch & Learn for Professionals” will be presented by Matt Santelli, Community Outreach and Education Specialist with the Pierce County Aging and Disability Resource Center.  The event is free for all ages.  Advance registration is required either online or by calling the ADRC at (253) 798-4600.
