Motorists traveling along 52nd Street East between 66th Avenue East and Pioneer Way East near Fife should expect long delays from 6 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22 to 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23 as crews resurface the roadway.
The two-lane road will be reduced to one lane with alternating traffic. Flaggers will be on-site to direct traffic. Motorists are advised to find an alternative route, as delays could last up to 20 minutes. Shorter delays are also expected at the intersections of 66th Avenue East and 52nd Street East, and Pioneer Way East and 52nd Street East.
“The contractor will repair failed pavement areas, pre-level the surface with asphalt and overlay the entire roadway with two inches of new asphalt,” said Henry Gertje, P.E., Pierce County Public Works and Utilities construction engineering supervisor. “An asphalt safety edge will be placed to improve safety. The project will increase the pavement strength, improve the riding surface and preserve the pavement of 52nd Street East.”
Work will continue on this stretch of 52nd Street East through Thursday, Aug. 29 as crews make improvements to the shoulders, stripe the roadway and apply markings. The road will remain open during this work.
Miles Resources, LLC is the contractor. The construction work will cost approximately $380,000.
