Pierce County will close 300 feet of 176th Street East just east of the 176th Street East and B Street East intersection for reconstruction from 7 a.m. June 7 to 5 a.m. June 9. Crews will excavate the existing roadway, place crushed rock, and pave the new roadway.
While three legs of the intersection will remain open, a detour route will be in effect during the closure to divert traffic around the work area. Traffic will be diverted around the closed segment of 176th Street East along B Street East to 168th Street East and back to 176th Street East via 22nd Avenue East.
If severe weather impacts the work, the closure will shift to another weekend.
This work is part of a project that began in July 2013 along 176th Street East from B Street East to 14th Avenue East to enhance safety and relieve traffic congestion. The project is expected to be complete by late summer. This project will complete the overall improvement of the 176th Street corridor that extends from Gem Heights Drive East to B Street East.
In the current project, the roadway has been expanded to four lanes with turning and U-turn lanes, and raised medians. Concrete curbs, gutters and sidewalks were installed, and street lighting and enclosed stormwater drainage and treatment systems were added. Pervious concrete is being included on this part of the new corridor on sidewalks and shoulders to reduce surface water runoff and address new stormwater regulations.
Tucci & Sons, Inc. is the contractor for the current project. The construction cost is approximately $5.4 million.
