Repair work on the Anderson Island ferry landing starts Dec. 14

Repairs will be made to the Pierce County Ferry landing on Anderson Island outside of sailing hours the week of Dec. 14.

Crews will repair damaged apron hinges and brackets between 9:15 p.m. on Dec. 14 and 5:45 a.m. Dec. 15. The apron hinges and brackets allow the apron – commonly known as a loading ramp – to move up so the ferry can dock, and down so that vehicles can load and unload. The Dec. 15 run departing Steilacoom at 5:45 a.m. may be canceled if the work is not completed. Pierce County will send out a Pierce County Rider Alert to registered users if the run is canceled. People can sign up for the alert at www.piercecountywa.org/ferry.

Crews will replace deteriorating wing wall rub timbers between 9:15 p.m. Dec. 15 and 5:45 a.m. Dec. 16. As the ferry docks, it bumps up against these timbers. This helps guide the boat into the dock and hold it in place while the ferry is loading and unloading. If needed, the work will continue during the same hours the evenings of Dec. 16 and 17.

The general contractor is American Construction. The construction cost for the project is approximately $136,800. The project is funded with Pierce County road funds.
The Pierce County Ferry provides service between the town of Steilacoom and Anderson and Ketron islands.
