Gig Harbor Wings & Wheels is back for its sixth year with activities for aviation, car and motorcycle enthusiasts alike.
The event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 3 at the Tacoma Narrows Airport, located at 1202 26th Ave. NW in Gig Harbor.
Highlights
Attendees will be able to watch airplane fly-bys, meet pilots, and purchase a spot on a flight aboard a Douglas DC-3 or biplane. Other highlights include a car and hot rod show, and watching Smoke-N-Thunder jet cars as they race down the runway at 300 miles per hour. A schedule of events is available at www.freedomfair.com/wings-wheels.php..
“Enjoy a day among historic planes and cool cars and motorcycles,” said Lori Linenko, Tacoma Events Commission board chair and president. “History buffs can also sign up now for an unforgettable flight aboard the vintage Douglas DC-3.”
The event also features food and arts and crafts vendors, a beer garden, and a kids’ fun zone and activity center.
Tickets are available in advance at www.FreedomFair.com or at the door. Tickets are $15 for adults 18 and older; $10 for seniors and military ID card holders; $5 for children ages 6 to 17; and free for children ages 5 and under.
Book a spot on the Douglas DC-3, biplane
The 1-hour DC-3 experience includes a tour of the Historic Flight Foundation’s Douglas DC-3 and an approximately 30-minute flight. Flights will be offered at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Each flight can hold up to 12 passengers. Additional times may be offered if there is high demand.
The cost is $350 per person, and includes one free pass to Gig Harbor Wings & Wheels with proof of purchase. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Seats can be booked at Historic Flight Foundation's site, or by calling Historic Flight Visitor Services at (425) 348-3200.
Spots on the DC-3 may be available the day of Gig Harbor Wings & Wheels. Visitors should check with the Main Admissions Gate.
Rides on a biplane can be purchased onsite the day of the event. Details will be available at the Main Admissions Gate.
Parking
Due to the limited parking at the Tacoma Narrows Airport, airport parking will only be available for those who purchase their tickets online before the event. Day-of-event ticket purchasers should use satellite parking at the Family Medicine parking lot at 4700 Point Fosdick Dr. NW in Gig Harbor and take one of the shuttle buses that run to the event every 15 minutes starting at 10:45 a.m. The last bus leaves the airport at 4:30 p.m.
The event is produced by the Tacoma Events Commission. The commission also hosts the Tacoma Freedom Fair & Air Show on July 4 at the Ruston Way Waterfront.
