The Pierce County Council will hold an In-District Council meeting in District 2 at 5p.m. on Oct. 4, at Fife City Hall, 5411 23rd Street East in Fife. This in-district meeting will be chaired by Councilmember Joyce McDonald.
Each member of the Pierce County Council holds at least one in-district meeting per year in order to ensure meetings are more accessible to residents of Pierce County. The following mayors have been invited to address the council Mayor John Hopkins, City of Puyallup; Mayor Dave Enslow, City of Sumner; Mayor Winston Marsh, City of Fife.
The agenda for the meeting in Fife includes a presentation on the Agricultural Resource Land (ARL) Study. The Pierce County Council authorized funding a study of ARL including an evaluation and report on agricultural land in Pierce County that has long-term significance for the commercial production of food or other agricultural products. There is already a series of technical reports available online which evaluate the effectiveness of the county’s zoning regulations for protecting commercially viable agricultural lands, compares regulations in other jurisdictions, and assesses long-term agricultural trends that have been presented to council. This presentation, which was also presented at a joint Performance Audit and Community Development Committees meeting on Sept. 12, included recommendations for Pierce County moving forward on zoning regulations for protecting these commercially viable agricultural lands.
