The Pierce County Council will hold an in-district Council meeting at 6 p.m. on Dec. 13, at Lakewood City Hall, 6000 Main St. SW in Lakewood.
Each member of the Pierce County Council holds at least one in-district meeting per year in order to ensure meetings are more accessible to residents of Pierce County. This in-district meeting will be held in County Council District 6.
The agenda for the meeting in Lakewood includes consideration of the Behavioral Health Sales and Use Tax (Ordinance 2016-57). The one-tenth of one percent sales tax for behavioral health comes after months of public testimony from service providers, behavioral health advocates and individuals touched by behavioral health. In September, the Council received the results of the Council-commissioned HSRI study which reported on gaps in behavioral health in Pierce County. At the meeting on Tuesday, Council will potentially vote on imposing the tax.
The ordinance passed out of Public Safety, Human Services and Budget committee on Nov. 28, without recommendation. More information about previous meetings on behavioral health can be found at piercecountywa.org/behavioralhealth.
Also on the agenda is Ordinance 2016-90 which revises the boundary line for portions of right-of-way on 44th St. W. in University Place.
