On Tuesday, May 2, 2017, the Pierce County Council approved Resolution No. R2017-44 which reads;
A RESOLUTION OF THE PIERCE COUNTY COUNCIL, EXECUTIVE AND COURTS PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF MAY 2017 TO BE “JURY APPRECIATION MONTH” IN PIERCE COUNTY, WASHINGTON
WHEREAS, the right to trial by a jury of one’s peers is an important and unique part of our system of justice and a cornerstone of our government, and
WHEREAS, Pierce County recognizes the vital role played by the citizens who take time away from their families and businesses to serve as jurors each year; and
WHEREAS, courts in Pierce County rely on citizens to answer the call to jury service and guarantee one of the most important freedoms in our society; and
WHEREAS, all citizens of Pierce County are encouraged to support the court system and fulfill a fundamental civic responsibility by responding positively when summoned for jury duty; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to honor the efforts and sacrifices of jurors; Now, Therefore,
BE IT PROCLAIMED by the Council, Executives and Courts of Pierce County:
Pierce County joins the State of Washington in proclaiming the month of May, 2017 to be “Jury Appreciation Month” in Pierce County, Washington.
