TACOMA, WA - Today Prosecutor Mark Lindquist arraigned Roman Anthony Mira, 23, on one count of attempted Robbery in the second degree. Investigators allege Mira tried to rob a Girl Scout and her mother outside a grocery store last month.
“Trying to rob a Girl Scout selling cookies would be among the worst ideas we’ve seen this year,” said Prosecutor Lindquist.
On Saturday, March 10, 2018, a Girl Scout walked into the Fred Meyer on South Pacific Avenue in Tacoma. She reported to a Tacoma Police Officer that she and her mother were selling Girl Scout cookies outside the store when two men tried to rob them.
The officer went outside to investigate. The mother, M. Dubois, was at the table where they were selling cookies. She was breathing heavily and crying and confirmed that two men tried to rob them.
DuBois told the officer she first saw the two men standing near a Bank of America. After a few minutes, they approached her and her daughter and said, "Give me all your money and no one will get hurt."
Dubois realized she was being robbed and said, "Why are you doing this to a Girl Scout?"
She told them she had no money and instructed her daughter to go inside the store.
The men then turned and ran away.
Mira was identified as the main suspect. Dubois picked him out of a photo montage as the person who did the talking during the attempted robbery.
Police were unable to find Mira that night, but he was found a few days later and was taken into custody without incident.
Bail was set at $100,000.00.
The second suspect has not been identified.
Charges are only allegations and a person is presumed innocent unless he or she is proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
