[ARCHIVED] 2019 Fee Changes Effective January 1 and February 1

2019 Fee Changes Effective January 1 and February 1

With the new year right around the corner, I wanted to remind you of upcoming fee changes at the Development Center.

Effective January 1, 2019:

Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department Fees –BOH

  • Drinking water program fees will increase 5–10%
  • Onsite sewage fees will see minor changes for 2019 including two new fees that can lower costs for homeowners and industry professionals

Effective February 1, 2019:

School Impact Fees—Ordinance 2018-88S

  • Impact fees will increase by up to $213 for single family-dwellings and by up to $114 for multi-family dwelling units consistent with the Construction Cost Index (CCI), for most of the school districts in unincorporated Pierce County.

Traffic Impact Fees—Ordinance 2018-71S

  • Traffic Impact Fees will increase by up to $3,000 for single-family dwellings and by up to 300% for most other types of development such as commercial uses and multifamily housing to accommodate new growth and development.

Development Processing Fees—Ordinance 2018-79s

  • A simplified fee schedule results in minor increases and decreases in permit fees
  • Sewer fees are increasing up to 30% to more completely cover operational costs
  • Many critical area fees associated with wetlands, and fish and wildlife were also increased by 10% or more

Building Permit Fees

  • Building permit fees will increase by 1%

To ensure your application is submitted before the fee change, you should:

  • Submit the online request for an application 2–3 weeks prior to the fee change, or
  • Make application and payment at the Development Center on or before the effective date

We anticipate a rush of applications before the fee changes take effect. You will be vested for the 2018 fees at the time of payment, not application submittal (PCC 18.40).
