[ARCHIVED] Upcoming Fee Changes at the Development Center

Fee Changes Coming in 2020

With the new year right around the corner, here is a reminder of upcoming fee changes at the Development Center.

January Fee Changes

Apply by December 31, 2019 to avoid these fee increases:

Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department Fees –2020-2021 Fee Schedule

  • Most on-site sewage program fees will increase. New fees added related to design review, pre-development meetings and expedited record drawing reviews.
  • Most drinking water program fees will increase. Environmental Site Assessment fee reduced by $10. New fee for Real Estate Water Sample Pickup ($55).

February Fee Changes

Apply by January 31, 2020 to avoid these fee increases:

School Impact Fees—Ordinance 2019-92s

Effective February 1, 2020

  • School impact fees will increase by up to $45 for single family-dwellings and by up to $25 for multi-family dwelling units consistent with the Construction Cost Index (CCI), for most of the school districts in unincorporated Pierce County.

Park Impact Fees—Ordinance 2019-94

Effective February 1, 2020

  • Park impact fees will increase by $115 consistent with the Construction Cost Index (CCI) and Building Cost Index in unincorporated Pierce County.

Development Processing Fees—Ordinance 2019-91

Effective February 3, 2020

  • Fee schedule changes resulted in minor increases and decreases in permit fees throughout Planning and Public Works.
  • Time and material options for sewer fees will end on the effective date of this ordinance.

Building Permit Fees

  • Commercial Building permit fees will increase by 2% in 2020.
  • Residential Building permit fees will not increase in 2020.

To ensure your application is submitted before the fee change, you should:

  • Submit the online request for an application 2–3 weeks prior to the fee change, or
  • Make application and payment at the Development Center on or before the effective date.

We anticipate a rush of applications before the fee changes take effect. You will be vested for the 2019 fees at the time of payment, not application submittal (PCC 18.40).
