COVID-19 Response

The Pierce County District Court bench met on Friday, March 13, 2020 to discuss the court’s ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The court facilities at the County-City Building will remain open but there are modifications to operations which should increase the safety of court participants and staff. All business conducted with Pierce County Probation (Hess Building, 901 Tacoma Ave S. Tacoma, WA) will be conducted at the County-City Building, Rm 239.

The Court will implement the following measures to minimize the number of people who need to come to the County-City Building.

Beginning March 16, 2020 through May 1, 2020,

All criminal and civil jury trials will be suspended and rescheduled to a later date.

  • All small claim mediations will be suspended and rescheduled to a later date.
  • Day Reporting classes with Probation will be suspended.
  • Work Crew is suspended.
  • Court Resource Center will be closed.
  • In-person probation appointments will be conducted telephonically.

Beginning March 23, 2020 and ending May 1, 2020.

  • All in-person contested and mitigation civil infraction hearings will be suspended and will be rescheduled to a later date.

Pierce County District Court is taking steps to keep the public and our employees safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. If sick or experiencing flu-like symptoms such as cough, fever or other respiratory problems, please do not come to the Pierce County District Court’s counter at #239. Any individual scheduled for a court proceeding who is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms and feels they cannot make it at their scheduled court time, may also use the above contact information.

We continue to follow guidance from Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department (TPCHD) to help protect the public’s health. Employees and court participants should follow these recommendations while at the County-City Building.

  • Increase handwashing and use of alcohol-based sanitizer
  • Respiratory hygiene and cough etiquette – cover a cough or a sneeze
  • Keep distance from others (more than six feet, if possible)
  • Frequently clean and disinfect surfaces
  • Remain home during a respiratory illness
