Beginning Sept. 23, a one-mile portion of the Foothills Trail will be closed for repair. The closed section is just east of Orting and no detours will be possible until the work is complete. The closure will last from Wed., Sept. 23 through mid-October.
Work being done will repair the Voight’s Creek bridge on the Foothills Trail. The bridge was damaged last winter due to high waters and has degraded due to the loss of support. As a result of the high waters the trail was undermined, and the paving is losing its support. If left uncorrected, a sinkhole would form in the trail.
Visitors should watch for signage at trailheads and along the trail for closure information. In addition, the map posted on the Foothills Trail website provides more information on the location of the closure.
