Pierce County Human Services has received $60,000 in federal CARES Act dollars to offer transportation solutions for those who are unable to transport themselves or who cannot access their normal mode of transportation due to COVID-19.
The Essential Express is a free transportation service that provides rides to essential destinations such as medical appointments, grocery stores and places of employment. Rides are offered from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. through December 30, 2020. Riders must wear masks at all times and be over the age of 18, unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. Rides must be requested two days in advance. Trips with less notice or same-day requests are not guaranteed. To schedule your ride, request a trip online or call 2-1-1.
Other transportation solutions funded by this money will include:
- 1,984 SHUTTLE one-ride tickets distributed to dialysis centers in Pierce County for patients having difficulty paying their fare.
- 1,500 all day bus passes distributed to the Tacoma Rescue Mission.
- 500 gas cards distributed to community centers in rural Pierce County.
