Many of us have heard of Medicaid and Medicare, but they can be easy to confuse. Join the Pierce County Aging and Disability Resource Center for an online primer explaining the difference between the two, including how to qualify and apply.
“Making Sense of Medicaid: A Primer,” will provide an overview of the program and is for people of all ages and incomes. Advanced registration is required, and participants can sign up using the link below:

“There is a substantial amount of confusion about Medicaid,” said Aaron Van Valkenburg, Pierce County Aging and Disability Resources manager. “Some people rely on Medicaid services when they should not, while others who could pursue Medicaid fail to do so. Our hope is that this event will provide basic understanding that can dispel misinformation.”
While Medicaid exists in all states, each state offers slightly different services and tailors specific financial and functional eligibility guidelines. Washington state Medicaid, called Apple Health, provides preventative care, like cancer screenings, treatment for diabetes and high blood pressure, and many other health care services such as immunizations, health home programs, transportation and more. In addition to Medicaid, this presentation will also include information about alternative programs and their available services, qualifications and application procedures.
“Making Sense of Medicaid: A Primer,” will be presented by Matt Santelli, Community Outreach and Education Specialist with the Pierce County Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC). The event is free but advance registration is required either online or by calling the ADRC at 253- 798-4600.
