Filing for office
Online candidate filing opens at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 12, and closes at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 14. To file your declaration of candidacy go to and choose the “File for Office” link.

In-person filing is available during business hours (8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.) on July 12-14 at the Pierce County Election Center, located at 2501 South 35th Street, Suite C in Tacoma.

Be prepared to:

  • Provide an email address.
  • Use a campaign mailing address, phone number and website address when you file for office. If you don’t, your voter registration address will be published online in the list of candidates who have filed.

Voters’ pamphlet information submittal
After you file for office during this special filing period, you will have an opportunity to submit your statement and photo for the General Election Official Local Voters’ Pamphlet. If this information is not submitted online by 4:30 p.m. by July 23, 2021, your statement and photo will not appear in the voters’ pamphlet.

Special note for water-sewer districts with fewer than 100 residents
If you are a registered voter of the state of Washington and you own land in the district, you may file as a candidate for and serve as a district commissioner. Please contact the Elections Division for further instructions on how to file.
